Hey Cappa.  You really should consider adding an extra event to TTC 2013.  I'm pretty sure that rock-obstacle-garden they were constructing this year will be done.  And it looked pretty damn fun.  Throw down a couple hundred thousand gallons of water, and it'll be like driving up the Niagra Falls.  Woohooo..
Also, wifey wants to compete.  Can she bring the TJ back, if she get selected, or is the vehicle DQ'd due to my participation last year?  If so, I'll change out the engine and put some TTC tires on it.  (She's a better driver than I am anyway.)

Hey Tony!
Yeah, we are supposed to go take a look at that new course in November.

Go ahead and put her entry in the mail. We are currently discussing if that's OK to do.

I got a question. Could you expand on this? "The vehicle must resemble a mass-produced truck or SUV, though frame and body brand do not need to match".

I got to thinking (I know dangerous) what number is considered mass produced? The reason I ask is there are offroad shops that have been in business for some time now and produce maybe hundreds of offroad chassis/turn key vehicles. They have skins, tail-lights, headlights, grill, etc. Shops light Jimmys 4x4 kicks out many rigs.

Am I splitting hairs? maybe. After all you did say trucks and suvs. This would also assume Jeeps are not incuded unless it is a Cherokee? (obviously I know jeeps are allowed)

Toby ran a mini cooper in TTCC, would that type of vehicle be considered acceptable in the current rules.

It says working headlights, does that mean factory headlights or any aftermarket light?

Says working tail lights, do they have to be factory or any red light? do the brake lights have to also work?

Really I am not trying to bust your chops but I do have a few friends that plan to enter and I know these questions will come up in the next couple months.

Sure! The idea is that the vehicle competing should be recognizable as a mass-produced OE manufactured 4x4 truck or SUV that you could find on the street anywhere in the U.S. or even the world. So no, the Mini is not legit. It is not a factory 4x4 and there were several other things that would keep that particular buggy out of TTC.

A Jimmy's buggy for example, while very cool, is not a mass-produced vehicle. It is custom built. But with a little work it could certainly be made TTC legal.

All Jeeps are considered to be SUVs. Well, except for the Commanche and J-truck pickups.

The headlight assembly should look somewhat factory but they can be aftermarket headlights. Meaning, empty headlight holes in the grille with off-road lights on the bumper do not comply. Make sense? Ultimately, if looks somewhat factory it's probably legit. Cool? I know it sounds like a gray area but this may need to be decided on a case by case issue.

Tail lights do not need to be the factory parts but they should be located in or near the factory locations.

Just as an example, if I remember right, Brian Waddell's Suburban looked like it would be borderline legal for the most part. If not, it wouldn't take much work to make it legit.

If you want to post a pic of their rigs I'll be happy to take a look and let you know if I think it complies.

So, with working headlights and working tail lights... Would this titled 74 cj5 be event legal?

Thanks

Nice rig. It's real close. You'd also need some CJ-like skins on the rear quarters. No tailgate needed though.

When would the modifications need to be completed? Before voting or before the event?
