I am in need of new winter tires for my H2. Thw OEM BFG AT's just don't cut it on my driveway!
My driveway is very steep (up going in) and paved with a turn near the top.
Two winters in a row after the first snow (each which dumped 8-14") I have done a 180 in my driveway and wound up back out in the street. It seems that the footprint is too large and the small lugs in the AT's just don't seem to work for deep snow on a hard somewhat smooth inclined surface. Couple this with no way to turn off Traction Control to obtain wheel spin to clear the treads just sucks!
I realize that this is different than going off-road (it's the wifes baby and I'm not allowed to break it )
I have much smaller and narrower all-season Michelins on my F250 4x4, but I also have 4.30:1 diff gears (H2-4.11) and a longer wheelbase.
I'v tried shifting from AWD to 4WD, Lo-range, and Diff-Lock. The only thing that worked (short of parking at the bottom and using the sno-blower) was two-footing it to the point that TC and ABS both overloaded and faulted out. This gave me the wheel spin to dig through the snow to the pavement. (But this also requires a system reset i.e. turn off the truck and restart). You could wreck your truck or get hurt in the wrong conditions. I haven't looked through the wiring schematics to look at finding a way to turn off traction control in certain instances.
Any recomendations for tires to fit my needs?
Mike
