What does a spool do? I fully understand Lockers From ARB to Lincoln, but i've been out of the game for 12+ years back when "timken" was the beez kneez. Is a spool better or stronger in anyway?

instead of having a carrier with spider gears or a posi, locker ect. the "full spool" replaces it.The ring gear bolts to the spool. Both axles are always locked together. ok in rear-ends, not good up front. Alot of dirt-track and drag racers use them. "mini spools replace the spider gears inside the carrier and locks the axles together. Ive used them but a good locker is always a better option. just my .02

Simple ... lockers can become locked unlocked if you wish with either a flip of a switch, a pull of a cable or the push of a button...or there are automatic lockers such as detroits.
A spool has the same effect as welding the spider gears together ... a lot of the old timers used to do that... both wheels spin together no matter what.
Use a locker (i prefer selectable lockers like air or cable actuated.)for dual purpose rig on and off road.
If its a trailer queen and never goes over 35mph throw a spool on that bad boy. Hardcore wheelers a lot of the time throw a spool on the back and a locker such as the detroit (automatically engages with wheel slippage)on the front
You never want to put a spool in the front axle unless all you do is mud drags or even sand drags ... because with a front spool you can barely steer at all.
a full spool is generally stronger than a mini spool . but it will mostllikey also be more expensive.
sorry about the book i just wrote lol
