I just changed my idler arm and pitman arm to get rid of the rattle in the front end of my GMC 2500 HD 4x4. It did not work. Does anyone know if the 2006 GMC 2500 HD 4x4 have any natorious problems with the front end where I should begin looking for the rattle?

Look at the sway bar end links.
Are you sure its in the steering? Have a friend saw the wheel as you watch the steering to see where the rattle is at before you toss any more parts at it. Heck it could be totally unrelated and be the center cap on your wheels or something silly like that.

Oh and being an '06 shouldnt you still have some sort of warranty left? Take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.

First thing that should be looked at for a rattle, especially heard at low speeds with the steering wheel turned while driving over bumps/accelerating/braking would be the intermediate steering shaft. The shaft is 2 peices with splines in between. These splines are greased, but over time, the grease works its way outward away from the working area of the splines causing the rattle noise. You will not feel any play in the shaft even with it removed, it is only noisy while "working" and installed in the vehicle. 9 out of 10 times this is the cause of front end noise on 99-06 trucks

Steering Intermediate shafts are problem for GM. I have 2003 2500 HD and had same problem. Open hood and grab steering shaft and pull up and down. If you have excessive play or clunking noise there is where to start. You might be able to remove it and cycle it a few times to redistribute the grease along the spline. At a minimum it's a diagnostic move. Good luck.
