I was wondering if you put a 6in lift under an 87 Suburban if you have to put a longer front or rear drive shaft under it?

You will need to have both shafts lengthened.  You will also need to buy shims to correct your rear pinion angle as the lift blocks (if that is the route you end up going) will most likely point your rear pinion up towards the rear output of the tcase.  This is a no-no, but lift companies do it for minimum driveshaft hassles.  You need to correct the pinon angle so that it is within 2 degrees of parallel to the rear output on the tcase.  This will lead to long living, very happy u-joints, and that is a good thing!  Don't worry though, having driveshafts extended is a very common practice and any respected driveshaft shop will be well equipped to do such a procedure.  Just get with thim so they can explain exactly how they want you to measure for the lengthened shaft.  We've all done it at least a time or two, really a no brainer.  Good luck
