ok. im havin a bad day ya'll. in june i swaped out my 10 bolt in my 89 chevy k1500 cuz i broke teeth of a the ring gear at the local bogs. well as any good four wheeler i went bigger up to a 9.5 inch ring 14 bolt. man it workd great... until i was maken a quick left right to avoid a darn kid in a rice burner... i hear bang bang bang from that rear. spider gears are toast, well its a eaton gov-loc. the clutches turned to shavings from the previous owner and all that crap ruined the rear. what should i do?
im a collage freshman with no cash... id love to toss in a detroit locker but i dont have cash to buy one. do ya;ll have suggestions on what junk yard parts i can use?

Call a junkyard and ask for a carrier.  just tell them what truck that 14 came from.  For it to just break like that is strange may have been another bad part in the spider gears like the cross pin.

i tore into it further and found that the carrier has clutch plates between the splined side gear and the carrier housing. i guess gov-loc(s) are like a limited slip/locker hybrid. well the clutches are gone and that causes a bout 1/4 of play side to side on the side gears. that caused all the spiders to slip goin round corners. i  found a whole 14 bolt outa the same year as my current 14 bolt at a local yard for 150 beans. but is a 2wd... idk if its a 3.73 gear i need to match the front

Worst case just pull the carrier out of it and put it in your axle.

Chevnut, another option would be to find an open carrier for that axle and put a mini-spool in it.  I know, everyone says not to run one on a rig driven on the street.  In reality however, the only difference between a spool and a Detroit is that a Detroit will unlock (ONLY WHEN YOUR FOOT IS OFF THE THROTTLE THOUGH!).  So if and when you go around corners, and you are accelerating, the Detroit will be locked and acting just like a spool.  I have one in the back of my Scout II and yeah, the tires chirp around corners, big deal.  No moving parts whatsoever, and by far the cheapest way to lock up an axle barring welding the spider gears.  I picked mine up off of Ebay for 50 bucks brand new!  You cant beat that.

yeah i dont beleive in lockers in the rear.  Spools are the way to go less possible component failure more affordable and garunteed to be locked unless you break.  Just have  to learn how to drive with it in rain snow etc.
