Hello, I recently purchased a 2000 silverado Z71 1/2 ton extended cab short box and would like to know of the weak points that should be taken care of first before spending money on cosmetics. I plan to do some moderate off-roading and would like to install a 4 inch lift and 35s next year. Also, how do I find out what axles I have so I can shop around for diff. lockers? Thanks for any help.

No weaker axle wise than a 1990 1/2 ton. Your limiting factor is the 10 bolt axle it rear and 8.25 in the front. Al though people do it bigger yet, 35's are pressing the envelope with those axle in a heavy truck and throw in a locker and failure is even more likley with a stock setup. How you plan to use your truck is a factor in deciding what is weak in it and for big rubber a 3/4 ton is a much better starting point because it has bigger axles and brakes to control the big rubber.
