i just picked up a 93 s-15 jimmy with the 4.3 vortec for $300. non running... its got a new fuel pump and sending unit. so i figured it was that stupid vortec spider thingy that always breaks on these trucks... so i replaced that. it didnt work. still no fuel so i got a new ecm computer... nothing. so my buddy threw on a fuel pressure meter and im only getting 12psi... the vortec needs 41 to 45... so much for the new pump... lmao. so do u guys think its worth the time? its got some rust but its power every thing and it all works and it has new tires... with 150,147 miles on the clock... and of couse it a 4x4

The 4.3 is actually a good engine for a daily driver.

Take a moment to think through every thing you have checked.  I need to ask,  How long has the vehical sat not running?  Did the fuel in the tank smell like varnish?  If the vehical has sat for a long time, the fuel system may be plugged or just restricted with with old fuel that has varnished.  Try and talk to a local mechanic at a GM dealer for some more help.  If you don't want to try to fix the 4.3 I have always liked the idea of a V-8 in the little S- series.

this guy is real special and again this is the differnce between a mechanic and a tech. Mech replace stuff and hope for the best. techs diagnose then replace. so before doing everything you did you should have checked the pressure. 12psi is way to low. check if the pump is clogged or you have a pep boys pump. very easy to pull the tank down and check. also dump the gas and replace with new. and would probably be a good idea to change the filter well your there

im an 18 year old kid btw and i got a new pump and it still wount start... the knock sensor is broke and my cusin said that might b it. and it sat for six months. I hate vortec. peroid. its a stupid design. it rather have Tbi

thats funny because the vortex engine started life with tbi (trottle body injection). have you checked the injectors? they could be cloged from sitting with old gas

ok so ur not as smart as u make ur self. its VORTEC not vortex. and the 4.3 was offered in tbi and vortec at the same time. the vortec uses ONE injector and six poppet valves for each cylender. i replaced the injector with a reman unit. the vortec uses a compleatly different intake manafold than the tbi.

ok so why dont you get a tbi manifold from a salvage yard and convert the thing if you hate the vortec so much

bore and stroke the pup, put 11 to 1 pistons innit and make a 3/4 LT1...hmmmm.ohh dont forget the .450 lift camshaft

the only other thing I could think of on that vortec was maybe the crank sensor is bad if it has one. I had one on a 3.8 that went bad and couldnt get the thing to run. but I only checked that after I beat my head aginst the wall checking and replacing other stuff. my code reader kept saying I didnt have enuff fuel pressure. so check to see if it has one before you do the swap it may be the prob. just a thought.

i was thinkin the crank sensor to... and naughty dodge i was thinking the same thing... aint the 4.3 and a 5.7 have the same bore... hmmm sounds good to me

the 4.3 and the 5.7 have the same bore and I believe the same stroke. those things are wicked bored and camed.

Ya, they share the same bore, so i figured if you destroke the pup and bore it over a wee bit, then a high rpm screamer is in the works, kinda wat they did w/ the 327/283 crank thingy...uhhh the 302 cheebie.
hmmm...so a 262 w/ 4" bore x bore x ? stroke x .7854 x 6 =???

ive already been on jegs... they make headman headers for 4.3... and nos kits... and nasty cams... and forgred slugs... hmmm nasty ass V-6 sounds fun... does any one make a super chager for it...? lmao! hell i need a pair of dana 44s and some 35's to... oh jeeze this is guna be pricy...
