Wouldn't a Top Truck DVD be more suitable? This is Four Wheeler after all.

I do agree with motiracer 100% though..

As far as keeping things in business, if ads on a web forum keep a magazine in business, there is a problem

Web hosting and storage and software has become cheaper (and freer) in the past 10 years. There is excellent open source web host and gallery software, so there is not even much maintenance that needs to be done, FW forums are not big at all

The idea of web forums is for user communication/information database, but desperate businesses have started milking even that venue. Its not just FW, I see ads ruining a lot of legitimate websites, and am sad to see internet be headed in that direction. Instead of it being more accessible and open, it is getting dirtier and more polluted. Too bad.

The problem most had with ORW was not one or two specific ads, it was the general direction that the website went - it sold out, to a bunch of ads, and ruined the user experience of coming there and chat with everyone.

The reason there is feedback every so often is so this website does not go in that direction. Feedback is good. When we moved in here there were some ads. Then there were some Flash ads. Then there were the Flash ads that would start to play automatically. Then came the Subscription ad. Now came the moving Please take a survey! ad. Yo know whut Im sayin??? Nothing is directed at Jason - he doesn't run things there and is not the advertising department, but we'd be discussing the website no matter where we were, so please stop taking it personally

Its only likely that a website with 8 ads will eventually implement some sort of a popup, which would really really ruin things...

The ad's here don't support the magazine, they have a separate P&L sheet.

And yes, you are correct, any idiot can have a website/forum for nearly free. But when you get to the level that a site like this is at it gets complicated, and expensive. There is so much going on behind the scenes that you guys have no clue even exists.

Contrary to popular belief, we are not a small site. Yes, there is a core group of active members, but the page views per week is pretty high. And a lot of people comes a lot of band width, and needing a server that can handle the load, and a staff that can maintain those servers, and a staff to handle the content, and and... ect...

I feel like a broken record.

For example, I've been a part of a smaller Ford Ranger forum for many years and have seen the growing pains first hand, along with basic server hosting costs, and watched those cost go up and up and up. Sadly nothing is free anymore.

Anyway... I'm just talking to talk now...

Yeah, but, ..... this is the only active thread today. The post count is 35 and it has 454 views as of 11pm. That's 454 more opportunities for the ads to work and gain subscriptions to the magazine and 454 opportunities to take a survey, shop at Discount tires, buy 4 for 3 Procomp tires, or figure out what an enthusiast is and why we would want 4 free ones. Jason, you're welcome for all the page hits, and I'm sorry that it was at your site's expense. I was simply bored at work and really wanted some communication with the outside world.

I still wonder why there is a minivan in the header and all the ads do for me is add to the load time, but I'll deal with it for the opportunity to off-road with you guys. Jason, you rose to the occasion and gave us a spot to commune when the ten nazis got out of control and you really do deserve thanks for that.

Just so you all know, my garage is always open if anyone wants to make the trek up to Agua Dulce. It's up the 5, out the 14 a bit and takes forever to get there, but I've got all the tools you need. Heck, it might even spur me to start working on my junk again.

The intent of the thread wasn't bad, but the direction it went gets annoying.

Anyway...

I tried to find the photo of the Land Rover that they used for the header since it's on this site somewhere, but alas I couldn't find it. Therefore it must be a mini-van after all. lol
