Alternative to the wrangler?

Please help me with possible off-roading (not rock climbing but, hunting, driving on steep mountain roads, exploring in mud and snow, etc.) trucks that are a little more comfortable than the wrangler.  I would still want the low gears and clearance-maybe with a little more noise insulation and bigger driving seats.

Thanks

A Wrangler is about perfect for what you want to do. If you go to a larger vehicle for more room and bigger seats it will weigh a good bit more and it will handicap you some in your planned taskes.

Are you looking for a new or used vehicle?  Used the old full sized Blazers were perfect for what you want.  New I suppose you'd just have to shop your tastes but there are a ton of mid to full sized SUV's like for example a Toyota 4Runner

How is a vehicle that weighs a ton more with a higher CG a perfect replacemt for a Jeep?  Bigger is rarely better for off road work.

Did you read his question?

He wants something more comfortable, better sound deadening, and he was wanting to maintain clearance so he could drive trails.

Yeah sure I read it  but there is a big differnce between trail riding in a 3 K or so jeep and wallowing  along a 5 or 6K lbs land barge. (not to mention it take more room up outside and it much harder to get out when it is stuck too. For serious trail riding extra size and weight is a enemy not a friend.

So you drive the Wrangler, he wants something bigger and more comfortable.

No I do not but I have in the past. I have been down that road and been drive 4x4's for well over 30 years now and a Jeep is a very tuff act to follow for serious off road trail riding because like I said, weight and size is a enemy not a freind. If you want a bigger ride fine but it will loose off road abilty in the process so bear this in mind.

For new vehicles; get the Toyota FJ Cruiser.

For used; consider a early to mid-`90's 2dr Nissan Pathfinder, or Isuzu Amigo.  Or a late-`80's 2dr Toyota 4Runner.
