Nissan Titan Rearend Issues

You might have seen my post in 4x4 Tech, but has anyone else had any rearend issues with their Titan? My is currently at the dealership waiting on Nissan to figure out how they are going to handle my claim. My warranty has expired, but there have been others to have this same issue, and I am a very loyal customer. Spider gears literally fell apart....I do not want to put the same stock assembly back in if there is an issue with them....not for the tune of $3,500. Anyone else had this issue and if so, how was it resolved?

holy *** for 3500 you can get a something from currie or dynatrac.
Spider gears only fall apart when they get low on fluid or a defect from the factory or after about 1 trillion miles. I believe you have a version of dana 44 which is a pretty stout axle. screw the dealer go to a local shop and get some upgrades for under 1500.00

Well, they were willing to replace the entire rear for nothing more than the labor cost. It is still at the dealership, and they have also given me a rental to drive while in repair. No reason to complain, I guess.

I am in the same boat that you are. My 2005 Titan Crew cab off road etc etc went into the dealer yesterday. The same spider gears fell apart. I am also over the warranty with 77,000 miles, and was given the $3500.00 deal to replace the rear assembly. I did find info on the web that there is class action law suit against nissan for this defect. Also, many others have been reported to the NHTSA at safecar.gov. Is there anyone out there who has been over the warranty milage, who has gotten this resolved? If so how...........

I have a 2004 Titan off rd etc. with only 39K miles on it and just got back from the dealer with the same issue. However my dealer told me to call Nissan and be very nice and tell them whats going on, and he's seen nissan fix it completely or work out a parts and labor deal, they do the parts you pay for the labor. I did that and should hear by tomorrow before 5 what the verdict is. Our warranty just expired last month. I don't know if it's going to work but it is definately worth the try and they look at each case individually and they also call your dealership and talk to them to try and work something out. It is a huge problem with the 04 , 05 and some 06 titans and they know it, so if you do call explain to them that you know that this is a common problem and you are just trying to get some help! I also threw in how much I love the titan and would like to continue to buy nissan. Good Luck

I have a 2004 Nissan Titan SE, NOT 4x4. At about 85,000 miles, rear axle went out. Did not know until I got off the highway after a 10 hour drive home, turned down my radio, and heard metal clinking around inside the wheel. My son was going to take it to work the next day, as he is a technician for Volvo; he was going to take it in to his bay on his day off, take the wheel off and check it out. He left that morn, went slowly over our neighborhood speed-bump and heard something snap inside the wheel. I said PARK it. He did, I called Nissan to bring a flatbed the next morn to come get it. I was never told there was an issue, of course a dealership will not offer info such as this. $1600 later, and two days I had it back. 2 months prior to this, I voluntarily had the rear axle seals and bearings replaced as my son said there was some leakage. Can someone reccommend who to call, with a phone number? I do not take this thing off the road unless its in grass on flat surface. Please, if someone can help me, email info to me at:mudchick@comcast.net. I am a dirtbike girl, not a truck mud-boger.
Thank you, Sincerely, Mudchick

Do what the Blazer says, I've heard of this working many many times. Nissan knows there is a problem with these axles and is willing to help out if you help them out.
