I have a 98 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 with the 5.7 vortec 4L80E auto and a 4:10 axle. I plan on building a 383 stroker and was wondering if anyone knows if I need to modify the induction/injection system and also if I need to modify or reprogram the computer. I presently have the hypertec system installed. Any help greatly appreciated!!

If you are in a area where the check emmissions you might think twice about this mod. I simpler solution would be to put a supercharger on it and it will yeild far more power than any 383 stroker kit and still pass emmision testing. You might also check you gear to as I have a 2000 K3500 with a 5.7 and it is a fairly strong engine if you let it wind up a bit and if you are running oversized tires with stock 4.10 gears perfomance will suffer a lot.

I was just trying to keep it simple. A friend of mine has a machine shop, so the motor would not cost that much to build. My truck is all stock except for the hypertec programmer. I do not drive the truck very much, only for picking stuff up and pulling the race car trailer. I just want more torque for better pulling power. A supercharger sounds extreme for what I need a truck for. Some people I talk to say that I should not have to change anything fuel wise with the 383. Seems to me you would at least need bigger injectors.I'm sure someone out there has seen this done?   Thanks.

Stock injectors will still work for you with a 383 mod and engine should still run okay the only gray area is emissions. As far as keeping it simple, a super charger can be bolted on and be up and running all in one day vs lots of down time with 383 kit and power differance would be big with super and marginal with stroker. You might look into 4.56 gearing for your truck because it will yeild more "seat of the pants" towing power than stock gears with 383 will and OD make even a 4.56 look tame cruising. Lots of time people lok for more power when sometimes they just need better gearing.

I've never been a fan of a 383 stroker kit. I know a lot of guys love then but externally balanced and thinner cylider walls never impressed me much.  Stroking an engine will change its torque curve and may actually lose torque to gain higher horspower.  Look into rebuilding the 350 with torque gaining parts (compression and cam changes.)

Never lost peak torque on a stroker but it can lower the RPM of torque and HP peaks though a bit
