sup guys, im kinda new at this so bear with me. ive got a great 90 montero 4wheel drive 5 speed that has been put to the dirt&mud test and passed but with a b- at best. its 4 coils and im thinkin about puttin 4inchers in the front and 3inchers in the back to take it from knee level up a couple inches or so and im thinkin this comin summer gettin 33s(i have 31 wrangler mudders). my engine gets covered in mud though and its either that or gettin in my exhaust that bogs down quite a bit goin through mud but i rev it in nuetral and its good to go. so ive heard the best thing to do is give it a lift to keep the exhaust out of the muck. if ya'll got any ideas im listenin to any and everything. thanks, adam

If your engine is bogging down then how would a lift kit help? They don't add any power or torque. And larger tires are going to put more strain on the drive train and just make it worse.

What you need is gears. Especially if you are going to lift it and put larger tires on it.

well i just re wrote some of my thread. i think i got the wrong idea across. it only does it in water holes deeper than the exhaust pipe which isnt high at all. thats why i mentioned liftin it, and its fine after i rev it a few time in nuetral. but just wonderin, what kind and how much are the best gears?

Sounds more like you are getting your intake wet, which is not good at all. Having the exhaust under water is no big deal. Have you checked your air filter lately?

Sounds like you need a snorkel.

Look into Yukon, or Sierra gears, or even the new G2's. You'll be happy with those. I can't help you past that because I have no clue what axles are in a Montero.

ah okay cool. yeah the mechanics at walmart(yeah, im broke), said a makeshift snorkle would work good. ive only gone off roadin twice and when they changed my oil yesterday turned out half of my filter was gone.(it had set for a while until i started workin on it and drivin it a couple months ago). and it may not help any, but they mentioned the rearend resembled a ford rear end almost identically.

Yea, the rear should have a drop out third member, similar to a Ford 9" or 8" axle, or also a Toyota axle. It's closer to a Toyota axle than the Ford, I know that much.

Two words that don't belong in the same sentence... Walmart and Mechanics.

Ok, here is what I would do if I were you....

I would purchase the 1.25" Old Man Emu (OME) lift kit.

Get a Safari Snorkel

Get an ARB locker for the rear

A roof rack

A set of 32" BFG KM2's

And call it good. That's just me though

(i am also having new rear axle seals put in, and i need new fuel gromets) oh and so i dont have to post a new thread, will '90 toyota 4-runner parts fit this ya think? and is ome a good buy? thanks man

No, Toyota parts will not fit your Mitsubishi.

Yes, OME is a great buy.

ive done some calculating and it would be after the start of the year before i could get half of the list you gave me so a good 4wheelin buddy of mine recommended puttin bigger heavy duty coils on the back and spacers on the front. sound like it would work?
