hemi swap

i have a 1986 dodge 4x4 it has a 318 wanna swap it out with a hemi but what year would i need and can i use my stock tranny what would i need to drop it in or will it be a simple pull it out and put in such as different mount bang here and there any info will be appreciated

i beleve he wants know if a hemi will bolt up easly to his truck. im no mopar mechanic so i have no clue on the bolt patterns for the bellhousins and such.

Well I'm gonna say that a 440 swap would be better. The older hemi's were mainly found in cars, and the newer ones would require so much electrionic crap that it probably wouldn't be worth it for you. The 440's actually came in those vehicles for a short time. So if you want to go for more CI go with the 440. I knew a guy with an 87 that had a 440 and he could burn all four 36's no problem. You could also rebuild your 318. The engines had little problems here and there but a proper rebuild would breath new life into the truck. As far as what parts to use I couldn't help you there I don't know much about building engines. Try putting bigget gears in the diffs if its just a lil tired. As far as the ease of the swap goes I'm not sure. You could try advanced adapters to see if they have kits for something like that. Don't forget the rest of the drivetrain, more power equals more stress on everything else.
