I have a 1965 Chevrolet C10 4x4. It still runs great and has all original parts including the straight six 292 engine. I've been considering putting 40 or 44 inch tires on the truck and giving it the minimum lift required. My biggest question is, will I have to upgrade the engine in order to run these tires? I was also wondering if I will need to change any other parts like the transmission, axels, brakes, etc. To be honest I will probably never take this truck offroad, but want the big truck look with the classic truck body. If you have any suggestions on what might need to be changed on the truck please reply to this message. THANK YOU

The old 292 was a great little engine and about a perfect power curve with lots of low end torque for off road use. Upgrade to 5.13 or deeper axle ratios and your 292 will do just fine. I would suggest 38 to 40 inch max though to minimize axle and steering component strain. 44's can break a lot of parts.

shiftkit and tranny cooler. 38's are huge! big tires and a big lift means broken parts. If you start tearing things up.

Shift kit add strain to tranny, not reduce it. (shifts are modulated for a reason from factory) Many fail to realize this.

What transmission does it have? That will make a nice truck, for sure! Post some pics when you get your tires on!

If stock, it should have a SM420 which was used thru 66. (SM465 came out in 67)
