85 yota x-cab running narrowed d60's, on 38.5 tires, with a chev 383 stroker under the hood. Lots of fender chopping to keep the C of G low, but enough fender left to keep it "road legal".

You will love this, a 68 to 70 GMC 1/2 ton (they came with 44's front and rear and a NP 205) 6 1/2 ft bed with a 6 cyl and a upgraded modern 5 speed OD truck tranny with a mild lift and 33's with 4.88 gears with true trac LSD diffs front and rear.

I use to own a few 6 banger trucks many many years ago when a 60's model was not that old. Those old pre smog 6's were strong little motors and very dependable too. I would be fun to off road with one and freak people out when you raise the hood after getting through some bad spots.

hell yes it would! the old 2 piece headers for running duals on the 6 banger looked really killer too. saw them on a nomad wagon, might have been custom. defiantely cool

saw a 75 chevy with a I-6 that i was told about that was beat up a little worse than my truck with a 4 speed 1/2ton but he would not come down under a 1000 for it and it smoked bad. If he would of let me have it for 600 i would have took it. All the 4x4 in the older styles people want a fortune for. i think the swaping of bodies is more work than i would care to do but would really love to have one.

It is worth it as they are getting rarer all the time with that engine and a 4sp and 4x4. Besides, 6 bangers and cheaper and easier to rebuild too.

chev quit using that I6 well before it was "old" technology. they shoulda kept it around. dont see to many of them in vehicles up here in canada, as the bodies off the trucks they came in have been reduced to minerals by the salt gods long ago. plenty of scary lookin I6's in the junk yard tough (scary as in over-weathered).
Now i want one

What killed off the 250 L6 with its intake ports with emissions (two cyls on one port). Chevy tried using a redesigned head with intergal intake manifold cast into head in the mid 70's and this limited engine further, plus they also went to thinner casting to save head weight with new design which warped easier when over heated so it was quietly retired. If GM had keep it alive and invested in fuel injection for it early on like Ford did with the 300 L6, it could have had a longer service life.

The ford I6 still had similar issue with lean out conditions on 1 and 6 due to the excessive runner length, right?
I remember seeign the wacky GM 1 port 2 cyl you mentioned.

Correct on the Ford I-6, they "fixed" that with fuel injection.

the ford 300FI was a pretty good motor, real workhorse. I used to drive a ford when i worked in a woodlot. The torque in 4Lo was quite admirable at low speeds. I used the truck quite often as a skidder until snow depth forced me to use the tractor.
I really think GM should have gone with an I6 in the new colorado/canyon unit. The I5 is interesting, but it's new in teh truck market. I remember audi had an I5 in the 5000s, was an excellent motor in that car.
GM went and designed the truck and then made a motor to fit. I would prefer the extra 6in on the hood to get an I6 as versus that I5.

Not me, I do not belive that a I-6 belongs in a compact truck, it is a waste of space to have a long nose. I-5 is a compromise and a good V6 would be even better. ALso, the 300 ford six wasa torquey motor at low speeds. The old GM 292 I-6 was a stomp puller to in its day too.
