I was wondering, has anyone ever tried to swap a 5.2L V8 from a Grand into a Cherokee in order to replace the 4.0L? Are there any adapters for the transmissions?

thanks...

You will need a different tranny to do this because the bellhousing is different (the 4.0 is AMC and the 5.2 is Dodge style) On the other hand a AMC V8 will bolt up to your existing tranny.

Ok, if thats the case what kind of engine would I need to use then?  An old AMC V8 from a CJ or is there a more current one in a more modern Grand Cherokee or some other car?

Any AMC V8 made for mid 70's till there demise in 89 will bolt to bellhousing. The most recent ones where in fullsized Jeep Grand Wagoneers and P/U's  (AMC 360's not Dodge)

Your best bet to find an adapter would be to try www.advanceadapters.com

If I was going to use a none AMC engine, I would change tranny and use a chrysler motor and skip the adaptor completely because there is two ways to go here and neither needs a adaptor.
