i have 94 f-150 and i plan to put a 6in skyjacker lift and 36x15in tires on it. i was wondering if my 302 would have enough power to ture the tires and be able  to go through plenty of mud with them. i want to add more horse to it anyway. what kind of bolt ons could i add to it to give it more power. the truck is completely stock right now. and would i need to change up the gear ratio to halp at all. it has 3.73 in it right now.

I think that it would pull your 36s around but anything like headers, k&n filter, straight pipes would help a lot. I would leave gears alone 4 now because your ratios now would spin the tires faster, but if you drive your truck up the highway and it downshifts a lot, you might think about changing them

i'd definetly do gears. 302 powered trucks are gutless mobiles in the first place. you are going to need all the help you can get. i'd go at least 4.56 gears with 36s. it's ok to gear that truck low because  the overdrive will make it up. then i'd bolt on every aftermarket perf. part that i could find to that engine. if it's an automatic you won't need to worry about not spinning the tires fast enough because it will shift up if it needs to anyways. and i would use low range all the time just to make sure that you have enough power to keep moving when wheeling.

I stepped up from 28s to 32s without gears and now my truck is a real pig.  Do the gear swap.

Beer, it's what's for dinner.

if your truck has an automatic and you do not change the gear ratio, i would spend the extra money on a good transmission cooler. at least untill you get your diffs replentished with a new set of gears.

My buddy lifted his 87 excab ford and put 36's on it.  His 302 was ok but he has a 5 spd.  Do it right and add gears.
