i was wondering if anyone knew how much a new alternator for a '87 k5 blazer would be?  also how hard is it to install it?

an alternator for that shouldn't cost more than $80. a half an hour, a 13mm wrench[ for the top bolt] a 15mm wrench [ for the bottom bolt] a small crescent wrench[ for the battery lead on the back of the alternator] and a 8mm wrench [ to disconect the negative battery cable]. disconect the negative battery cable first . you will also need a big pry bar to pry the alternator over to tighten the belt up .  all this assumes that you have more than one belt. if tou have only one belt that winds around everything then you will only need a long breaker bar and a 15mm [ i believe] socket to twist the belt tensioner, and release tension on the belt while you remove the belt.
