1990 CHEVY SUBURBAN need help with its transfer case

well i wanna know what transfer case came stock in the 1990 suburban .When i activate the four wheel drive , it makes a loud metalic clicking sound similar to to the drive shaft hitting metal , is it cuz its not fully engaged or could it be the transfer case, help me out if u can
