We have an old 79 gmc 1 ton.  When my parents farmed they bought the cheapest options so it only has a 292 and 2wd.  Ive always liked how the truck looked and thought it had some potential being a 1 ton and all.  I was considering lifting it (3 in body) and maybe throwin on some 33x12.50s but or even putting a dana 44 under the front if i got the money. I need some opinions on this and other suggestions to boost power on the old 292 or make this truck worthy for off road.

the cheapest way to do that??  buy a doner 4x4 73-87 will fit your 83'  and just swap everything.  youll be able to pick one up that has everything you need.
