I own a 98 Ram 4x4 with 3" lift &33" tires,I replaced the stearing box with an AGR box 1 yr ago the bushing's inside the box are worn out already.Someone from AGR told me it's got something to do with the stearing Geometry.Does any one know how to fix my problem? Oh" I almost forgot I also replaced every thing in the stearing linkage. From what I understand Chevy & Dodge use the same box so it must be in the Geometry of the linkage ?

i dono i havent had that problem with mine but the power ram wasnt working and they dint know what the problem was.
they have really sh**ty tec people over there cuz they dint know what it was after we sent it back 3 times. now if it breaks its all hydro from then on out.
do you have the assist ram? if not i would just use a chevy box from a 2x4 or 4x4 the output shaft isnt the same but the 2x4 will be in better condition from its easyer life. (but then again)
there are ways to make your own assist now and there not extreamly hard to do. you need to take the box apart drill and tap holes in a certain spot run line to a cylinder and fill the system.
also if you run this on the trail only you can make it 100% ram powered by just not useing any linkage and drill bigger holes in the box. also some mods to your pump will need to be done and thats not hard from what i hear.
the only things you will need are... tools, line, the ram, and fittings. for the pump its just redoing and redrilling some holes bigger.
write back if you need more info i found a page on how to do this.

No I do not have Ram Asst.Dont need it mostly street use,There is a shaft that comes out of the stearing box that attatches to the pitman arm ,the bushings I'm wearing out are the ones that suround the shaft in the box, It's due to the configureation of the tie rods? At least that is what I understand There have got to be plenty of dodge owners with the same problem ! Anyone with a newer dodge with big tires.

you need to redo your steering then crossover is hard but in your case its well worth it. there are other ways to figure this out but crossover will keep other options open if you wish to get bigger tires.
its a 98? if i were you ide start finding good steering boxes at junkyards there cheap if your going to the right spot. ide use the older ones you can convert to them and parts will be cheaper

you need to read about this stuff its the best way to learn
take your box and toss it then take an older box thats still good and use it. then make your steering crossover.

Listen thank's for the info I just dont think your the one I should be talking to . I want to talk with someone that drives a dodge close to the same year as mine with a big lift , big tires that has had the same problem as me.No offence but you answer so many peoples questions,Let me put it this way have you ever herd of the phrase Jack of all trades but master of none?Your info is not the answer I'm looking for!Plus your to confuseing to understand what your talking about ,YOU say throw out A $400.00 stearing box ,I can get it rebuilt for $150.00 If I can find someone that knows how to keep it from wearing out in the future.I'm not trying to be rude. Thanks for your help..

why cant you just read up on it tho?
i drew a pic for #### sake when you put a lift on a truck the steering works harder. the best cure for it is running a 1.2 inch solid rod from your box (on the left side) to your passanger tire (right side) this less steep of an angle will make your box work less.
so your 400 doller box wont be a hunk of #### now and you have the right style system.
this is the right answer i know it is i dont care what or who says it. this will get rid of your problems or really help it last longer. read up on it or just figure it out. your steering is tied right to the left tire its a short arm and when it has to be streched out it makes your box work much harder.

i drive a '99 ram quadcab with a 5"/3" combo with 36" tsl radials.
you would be better off getting a rebuild kit for the dodge box then pissing around with the AGR. click here for details
http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/steeringbox.php
the AGR's arent highly rated for dodges for some reason, and quality i know from reading on other websites has been a problem.
you can usually get a steering box from Autozone or such for less then $200.
once you either rebuild your box or replace it, this guy sells a steering box brace(trust me he does, its just that his website sucks)for dodges.
http://www.mikesfabshop.com/index.html
this thing takes the torsional side load off the sector shaft.
dont listen to the other dude, he must drive an older truck, those had the steering drag link that was maybe 1' long and ran front to back.
the steering on the dodge is whats known as an inverted "t", which is already close to (but not quite) like crossover steering.

Thank you ,Thank you, Thank you. It's about time someone get's it ! I can't thank you enough. Do you have one of the stearing box braces you talk about on your truck? If so, did it help any? You see there is just one thing, I really like the AGR Box it is geared diff than a stock box it makes steering real easy if your running big tires so I might get it rebuilt,AGR does this for $150.00. AGR also adds another bushing on the shaft .A guy at AGR told me Dodge truck's break this bushing over time.My truck only has a 3in lift,do most people use a drop pitman arm with a 3in lift?I didn't.I havent checked this site for some time,I didn't think anyone was going to help me so I just kinda gave up,Thank's a lot ,I really appreciate your help.

Hey Blue dog, I do have a couple more Questions for you.First do you think I should install a drop pitman arm even though I only have a 3in lift?2nd Did you use one of those braces you told me about? 3rd people talk about AGR using an extra bushing on the sector shaft, yet in your box rebuild I didn't see any mention of that? As for that skblazer guy ,I never did listen to him anyway.
