ya but oregon is kinda boring, cold as crap and no sun. i lived in p-town for a year and i wanted to hang my self, i will say that peeps are super nice and if you like 4X4ing in mud (no sand lol) prop the best place to go. no doesnt compare to cali and thats why we pitch fits and suck it up

i live in bend where these lakes to fish  theres wheelin everwhere.. here less poeple.. the dunes are 4 hrs away...and we get plenty of sun..the valley is the gloomy part..

California has the worst smog and gun laws!!  

serioulsy something is up with CA smoggers...... the other day my buddy and i took his 86 toyota pickup to get smogged.... it fails becuase the timing was off....we go home and set it correctly ourselves...go back to smog place and tell the guy to test it again.....he asks us if we had a certified mechanic do the timing?? WTF??? we say of course we did....then he asks for a reciept....we say we dont have no stupid recipet and why the F does it have to been done by a certified mechanic??!!!! the timing was perfect....he refuses to give us our free retest....we call corporate office.    then the guy calls us back in, smogs the truck.... once hes done gives my buddy the keys and a paper and dosnt say a word to us......it passed ha!! so we are then off and on our way...but wtf was that guys problem not wanting to smog the truck unless a "certified mechanic" adjusted the timing... gawd damn i took auto class in high shcool im certified enough

Sorry, folks, but there's nothing about California that makes it worth putting up with that kind of BS. Not the weather, the beaches, nothing. I had my totally stock F250 4x4 fail because the "Check engine" light didn't come on when he first started it. The smog numbers were great, but no light-no pass. Cost me almost $300 to chase down a burnt wire in the instrument panel. Parts of Idaho have smog inspection, but they do it right. If you meet the numbers for the make and year of your vehicle, you could have a blown Hemi in it, and they wouldn't bat an eye.

I have now left CA for the second, and last, time. Here in eastern Washington, there are no smog checks, and my '79 Bronco is completely exempt anyway (over 2 years old). Screw the enviros.  

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is one of the primary reasons I left CA over 4 years ago and moved to Wyoming.  You want to talk about lax, how about no smog laws STATE WIDE!  Good roads to drive on, nice Diesel fuel and gasoline to run in your rigs, and none of the BS tax laws on fuel either.  Talking about taxes, how about NO state income tax?  That's a big plus too.  Gents, I was born and raised in California.  Lived off of Donner Summit, a stones throw from the trail head at Fordyce and grew up on those Sierra trails.  I left and have never wanted to return, other than to visit family.  

Sorry guys, I agree a lot of things suck about California, but truth be told, it is probably the best place to live in on this planet

I like the sun, and the ocean, and the mountains, and summer year-round. I like being able to own guns, smoke herb, and walk around all the cool places here. Yes, a lot of things suck, the list could go on and on..

but if you think it sucks here, try living in Russia or anywhere else in the world  

It's an absolutely raping racket!  "Smog only" stations send you to a "gold" station to get it fixed.  

We should all buy a grease burnin' kraut wagon like Frank.  Let them smart cars eat particulate from a 5 ton blue water buffalo.

there's sand 1.5 hours away, check out oneupoffroad.com...  rocks that nearly compare to the hammers 30mins from downtown and trails you wouldn't believe 5 mins from my home.... and of course some mud...

of course you have christmas valley an hour and a half from bend with sand, rocks and mud, at least for another month or so.... but dang, that gets boring after a while....

Well, if you like the sun, we get it over 300 days a year here.  Let alone the clean air.  And mountains?  Sorry, I grew up in the Sierras and they don't hold a candle to the Rockies or the Big Horns.  Why do you think Yellowstone is the nations first national park?  Yeah, we don't have summer all year long....THANK GOD!  We get all 4 seasons here, and the cold helps to keep all the tree hugging bay area environmentalists out there......WHERE IT'S SUMMER ALL YEAR LONG!!! LOL.  Also, just FYI, you'd be hard pressed to find a more gun friendly state than Wyoming

Tell that to all the people who got a big fat IOU from the state for their state income tax return!  Then tell me about how the gasoline tax was just raised, and how registering your vehicle just about doubled, and how Diesel pickups are going to be smogged now, and CA cities are declaring bankruptcy and screwing retirees out of their hard earned retirement, and how every highway and/or interstate in CA is in desperate need of repair, and how you can't travel any of them at any time of the day without the traffic being damned near bumper-to-bumper.  Then we can talk about the stupid state income tax, and how the sales tax keeps increasing every year.  Then we can talk about how screwed up the public water system is and how the state TELLS you what days you can or can not water your lawn or wash your car on.  Don't even get me started on the rediculous gun laws out there and how to own a firearm, which is a 2nd amendment right under the US constitution, that firearm must be on the state's "Approved Firearm list".  Give me a break.  Don't tell me how great California is and how it's one of the best places in the world to live, I lived there for almost 30 years.  Besides, if it truly was so great, then why does California have the highest number of people leaving it than any other state right now?  California sucks, and the sooner that more people realize that, the sooner their lives will improve.
