well taking the dive and gonna see if they work.

Heres a pic of what im thinking.  not sure if im gonna do the 2 outside vents.  but if they help cool off the motor at highway speeds by letter the hot air out. ill do it.  fuction is more important for my motor overheating.

Can we see it without the front one?

And I thought you were just going to do two and split it with Nick?

I would guess letting out. the incoming air should be from the radiator...

put your finger over it hahahaha    I was lookin at pics with just two and it looks wacky.   Im most likley not gonna use the outside two.   but it depends if it will let alot of heat out.

Looks pretty good with my finger over the hood. Dave, can you make Kevin a decal of my finger, about the length of the hood?

lol

I think it will look good with any combination of the two or four. The front one just looks goofy to me.

Since you said it's for function and not just for looks, I'll weigh-in.

Hood vents will provide almost no additional engine cooling, especially at higher speeds. There is enough ram air going down the road at speed to more than evacuate the engine compartment of super-heated air.

Hood vents can make a small difference when stopped and idling with regard to underhood temperatures. But again, probably won't make any difference to engine operating temps.

Heat kills. So, having underhood temps reduced a little may help some components live longer. But, the things under the hood have been designed and tested to be durable in that environment, so will there be a benefit?

If your motor is running hot, hood vents are not going to help you. Lift the hood and let your motor sit there and idle for 30 minutes. Then do the same with the hood closed and notice the difference in engine temp. Then you'll know you'll be getting substantially less than that difference becuse the vents will provide much less cooling than an open hood.

If your TJ is 2000 or newer, there is an 8 blade cooling fan available from the dealer that makes a huge difference. The 2000's changed to a different water pump and a center mount clutch/fan setup, so it won't fit the older 4.0L. Cost is around $40.

I live in Phoenix and run the 8 blade fan in the summer. It makes more noise than the 5 blade but mostly only when the clutch locks it up.

from what i understand TJ's have pretty much the WORST underhood temps of any vehicles.   my overheating issues are only at speed on the freeway.  I have a 3 row all metal radiator.  Xtreme flexalite fan with full shroud that keeps up fine at 4low romping around.   its only at speed things get hot or when climbing hills.  which makes no sence when there tons of air blowing in through the radiator.

kevin, you should not need to do this, if this is happening there is a problem

how is your coolant? ever leak/disappear? what has been done to the motor? how many miles? have you ever flushed your fluid? ever clean/test radiator?

do you have oil temp gauge in your truck (engine oil)?

you have a problem man, don't ghetto your jeep out with 4 hood vents (sorry)

if anything, get a cowl induction hood. heck, you don't even have to paint them LOL

coolant new, no air bubbles, no leaks.  stock motor cats are good i temp checked them. 50k in miles. new radiator pressure tested and no drop in pressure.
what would oil temp have to do with it.

just see if its isolated cooling issue or if the motor is running hot, just theory

hmmm that is tricky

what gears in ur axles? is transmission temp ok?

3.73 gears,   deep trans pan and temps are good.  using an external trans cooler not connected to the radiator.

3.73 gearing is kind of low (numerically) no? maybe you are working the motor? just a guess, that could be a reason

also, if there is an air bubble trapped it can sometimes show temp as rising, even on the freeway

i doubt it, but maybe there is a port or something blocked inside the cooling passages on the motor

there's gotta be a reason, its not normal behavior, jeeps are more solid than that
