i think the cable locker like an OX would be better because it requires less maintenance & has no air lines to deal with like an ARB...as for a selectable locker for the 14 bolt FF, you're out of luck...i wish they had one so i could install one in my FF...but i guess a detroit locker is going to have to do...that's pretty much the only option...if you really want a selectable locker, ditch the 14 bolt & get yourself a dana 70...

I would not scrap a 14 bolt just for a cable locker. The GM 10.5 is too good a rear end to "throw away". The ONLY reason I would scrap one would be if I needed deeper than 5.13 gears.

I think you are right about the cable locker, the easier sth is, the more dependable it normaly is too!
The OX-Locker seems to be very rugged!
But I can´t belive they don´t make any selectable locker for the 14 bolt FF! This is one of the most popular and most used axles in built up 4x4´s and they only make the detroit locker for it!? Do you have any idea if for example OX-Lock could custom build one for my 14 bolt? I need the lockers to wheel, but I prefer an open diff for driving on the road which i do too with that truck!
but thanks a lot for the info!

The reason they do not make one for the GM 10.5 14 bolt may be because of its straddle mounted pinion bearing setup which limits differentail case clearance for the "ring" to engage/disengge the locker that the cable fork rides in. The 9.5 inch 14 bolt GM does not have this problem though.

i'm sure one of the major high tech companies can be able to make a selectable locker for this very popular axle...& i wouldn't ditch my 14 bolt either unless i needed lower gearing...

I know that one was in the works sometime ago for a 10.5 14 bolt, just do not know when it is due out.

I have actually e-mailed many locker companies. The answers I have gotten seems to be that most 14 bolts are on full size rigs and the difference is not very substantial between full lock and open. I dont believe this either, but this is what they told me. And they think that difference is so subtial that people would not be willing to pay double the price for a selectable locker in the rear.

They may be saying this because the 10.5 has 4 spider side gears instead of two for strength and this also causes a bit more drag when "spining/slipping"

they could still build selectable lockers for those who want them. if somebody doesn´t wanna spent that much money they can go with a detroit locker, but as i´vve seen here there are some people who would like to run a selectable in the rear, and for them they should build them! i´m sure they would sell many of them, if there were available!
