I bought a rebuilt 302, and put a mid performance cam in it, stufffed it into my EFI 92 F-150.   I advanced the timing 4 degree's on the rebuilt 302, and my old 302 that didn't have a cam in it feels like it had more power that the rebuilt 302 with a cam.  Do I need to advance the timing more than 4 degree's or what.  Any ideas? 

My rig has an 8 inch straight axle conversion, 4.56 gears, 33 inch tires, E40D tranny.   [working on 36 inch tires].   

4 BTDC is not much and slightly warm cam will probly need 8 to 10 degress initial advance. Also a 302 with 36's will be geared kinda tall with only 4.56's. A 302 is a great motor that can make some good HP when built but it needs to make it through higher RPM because it lacks displacement. If you are seriuos about 36's, 5.13's are more in order here. Also remember depending on cam overlap, as it gets warmer, more low end torque is lost to gain topp end making deepers gears even more important

What do you think about 35in x 14.5 tires with the 4.56 gears.    I just got a superchip to add to the computer, and a K&N filter. 

You my get buy but you will need to use low range a lot when it gets thick. Maybe I am a bit old fashsion but I like my 4x4 to have deeper gears than most do because I have seen what they do. 35's amd a 4.56 is not terrible but it is not the best possible combo for a 302. Try it and see how she runs for your usage. If she feels a little weak at times, consider regearing it to 5.13. I know that gearing sounds scary to some but as engine size decreases, gearing needs to get deeper to get best preformance. If it was a V10 or a 460 it would rock with 4.56's and 36's but if you really want that thing to its best it will likely need deeper than a 4.56.

It rained pretty good out here yesterday, and let me tell you what, that 302 was roaring through the muck, yes sir.  I even felt sorry for some Chevy Boy with a 351 in a full size Blazer, and pulled him out sideways.  Yee Hah.
