I always try to buy AMERICAN for most everything. But never at the expense of QUALITY. In my book Quality is what counts. The American car companies really learned their lesson in the late 70's and early 80's. They had really begun to slip against the *** and Euro cars and trucks. The US companies and the Labor unions really cried foul. But, what it took was a better product. The fact that there is competition from oversees companies is what makes America better. The American Car Co's were forced to build a better product in order to survive. Today's cars, although very overpriced in my book, are the best built cars and trucks ever. And we have the American way and good ole competition to thank. After all, what do they drive in China or North Korea?

No car made is 100% american anymore and has not been for some time. As far as quaility, Detroit has improved but they still have a long way to go. Just read some of the complaints on them in various forums. I had a 91 Toyota Camary (built in Kentucky) that I bought new with 6 miles on it that I drove 215,000 miles and the only parts it needed was a few batteries, a few sets of plugs, a set of struts as 170k, a timing belt (at 190K miles) and a few brake jobs and nothing else. It always started and ran like a finely jeweled watch. Everything else on it was original equipment. It was totaled in a freak accident or it would be on the road still today.
