i have a dana 44 front axle 3/4 ton but to the drivers side of the inspection plate is has 44-8f or 44-Bf... i can't tell the 8/B is marred from rock abuse. whats these letters for?... and another question...whats the difference between a dana 44 front and a corporate 10 bolt? both have 10 bolts in the inspection plate and it looks as though the plates are interchangeable... are the inner axles, knuckles, and gears swappable?

From the knuckles out - everything is the same between the D44 and the GM 10 bolt. But the inners are unique to them selves. But, the 1/2 ton outers are not the same as the 3/4 ton outers. The covers are not the same.
The BOM is the most important number. It tells exactly what everything is. The BOM is used to make sure what ever parts you need will be right. The BOM can be looked up in parts manuals and Click Here to look it up on Dana's web site. Here's what the numbers on the axle housing mean for a Dana axle...
