Rear axle? Solid axle or IRS? Sounds like your hub nut worked its self loose and came off, allowing the hub to stay attached to the wheel as it left the quad.
Hit up the Honda dealer and order a new hub nut and cotter pin and you should be good to go.

the axles still there, and we just had the rear end replaced yesterday..any idea how much the hub nut will cost? A buddy of mine said it was probably a bearing..not sure about that though..

The hub stayed attached to the wheel and the whole unit came off.

So is it IRS or does it have a solid axle and swing arm? What model is it?
If it has a solid axle then there are no bearings. If it has IRS then there is a possibility of it being a bearing.
Call Honda on the price. Incase you didn't notice, which I'm sure you didn't, this site isn't about ATV's (or "quads" or "four wheelers"). We are Four Wheeler Magazine, as in Off Road 4x4 Trucks. We just happened to have an idea on how to fix your current issue. But pricing isn't up our alley.

the axles solid, so i guess the bearing thing is out of the question. Oh lol your right i didnt notice, livin down in the boondocks when you hear 4 wheeler you think of atv not trucks. its a 86 honda 250 4trax. and yes, the whole unit came off.

My money is still on the hub nut then. With the solid rear axle the bearings are in the carrier on the swing arm, and at the ends of the axle there are splines that the wheel hub slips onto. This unit is pressed onto the axle and then there is a nut and cotter pin (should be) that holds the unit in place. Sounds like your nut came loose allowing the hub to be removed as you slid sideways.
I wouldn't suspect the part is more than a few bucks from the dealer or online parts house.

With ATVs the axle is a live axle with no internal parts. The only part that holds the wheel to the axle is the lug nuts. Did the axle come off as a whole or did it split or what? Did you check the wheel to see if the lug wholes expanded to slip over the nuts? Because if the nuts are still on then I would try to slip the wheel on without taking off the nuts to see it it can slip on and off. If this is the case then you will need a new wheel ($100 fix). If I were you I would post it on mudbog.net It is an ATV only forum and they are pretty good at problem solving.
