stock tranny to nv4500

ihave a 99 jeep tj i have chewed up the transmission twice. I really want to drop the tranny and put in a nv4500. I have heard that it is the best and easiest. I am looking for a used nv4500 and need the conversion kit. I am doing this myself and have not done this before...can I do this in my garage at home??? Any info is good info at this time. I have dropped a tranny before. I have lockers front and rear 4inches of lift running 33's w/heavy duty rear axels. the stock ax15 sucks, too light duty. Is there any fabrication needed?  

Yeah, most likely you will have to fabricate a new crossmember.  Look for a NV4500 out of a 4wd Dodge pickup, any year after 94 will work.  This way, chances are it will have a NP241 tcase that you can run because it will be the right front output for your front axle.  I would also try to get the crossmember(s) with the tranny/tcase combo.  It may be easier to modify those than to completely fab up a new one.  Might be able to shorten that one up to fit the jeep.  Obviously you will need to have driveline work done post swap.  When you get the NV4500, take it to a good machine shop or a performance tranny shop and have the 5th gear nut welded on.  This will keep it from backing off and giving you the dreaded "NV4500 5th gear no go no mo" that has swept the country into a frenzy.  It's a VERY cheap and easy pre-fix to a pretty expensive repair later.
