Does anybody know what year the 7.3 powerstroke motors were using powdered metal rods? I have an early 99 with a build date of 8/98 is this something i should be worried about or just a concern if i was looking for big power?

I thought you weren't going to mess with this truck?

My question was about the powdered rods, what year did they start using those? Someone on another board brought it up and i am wondering if it is a concern in general or just when making more power.

This is one of those things that I wouldn't worry about. What are you going to do if you find out you have the powdered rods? Sell the truck? Doubtful. And if you're not going to monkey with the engine I would just stop looking. It's one of those things that's best not to worry about, especially since the only fix for it is to sell the truck or tear down the engine.

I don't like worrying, if you can't tell. So some things that are beyond control are best left a mystery, at least in my mind.
