I am looking at buying an '04 F250 diesel. What kind of chassis, engine, body, interior issues should I be paying close attention to, and how many miles can I expect to get before I start seeing large/expensive repair bills?

The fact that it will have a 6.0 powerstroke will cause you the most headaches, go to http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/0907dp_6_0l_ford_power_stroke_engine/index.html , here you will see a pretty good write up of just about everything you can expect from the 6.0. You might consider a 99-03 with a 7.3 powerstroke unless your are dead set on the 2004 model year.
