I am running XP Pro, but I'll look at what programs I have. I really need to do this, it's driving me crazy. Thanks Doc, I am kind of leary of putting another hard drive in tho, since this one has worked so well and I haven't had the best luck with them. I'll see what Dell recomends to do software wise when upgrading. They did get all my money a while back so they should be willing to help.

unless you are running xp 64 bit, the max XP will use is 3mb of RAM.

OK all of my tech friends are liking the Window 7.

I might have to invest on a copy.

Brian, Do this...

Make a COMPLETE backup of the drive in your laptop to your external. I mean complete, just copy the C: drive over in it's entirety. Then pick up the new drive that you wish to install in the computer and grab an external drive enclosure (they are like $20 these days). Before you install the new drive set it up in the external enclosure and transfer ALL the files that were previously on the C: drive onto this drive. Essentially you are cloning the current hard drive. Now swap out the drives and the computer should fire up and run just like as if nothing had changed, only now you'll have more drive space free.

Make sense?

That sounds way too easy. All programs will stay loaded? Have you personally done this before?

Yup, sure have. It's no different than swapping a hard drive between machines. And in this case since it's the same machine the margin for error is even less. (sometimes the BIOS firmware gets funky, just like swapping mobo's, but since none of that is changing it's all fine)

Hmm. I'm going to bite the bullet tonight. Best Buy has a Western Digital SATA 360Gb 7200RPM drive for like $120. We'll see how easy this really is.

Dang all this compuspeek is like wHaT to me, all i know is front end speed is better than total ram correct? and more ram is betta.
Next I want to hook up four external hard drives to my little 1 gig 160 lap top. I figured four western digital terrabyte hard drives, hooked through the usb ports aught to be the cats nads no?
Figure i could run Sony acid and all the download paks n i tunes out there, then hook up the Rane Serrato scratch program so's i can go spin my trance and D n B to the peasants. or produce my music on the run... cool innit?!
NOT.

Ya , I was pulling some chain. My little laptop isnt powerful enough to do any real DJ stuff. I did see an HP laptop w/ 6 gig of ram upgradable to 8??? and a 500 gig hard drive. But from what ive seen the front end isnt too awful fast. The club i used to work at...when the "official" DJ wasnt lit up and showing at midnight would let me play with the denon DND 9000 decks. I LIKEE? any way thats as far as my geek goes, i can look at specs and go hmm and decide what i need, but for the rest of the terminology...
My mid term goal is to produce video with some tracks to grove by. My PS 2 can only go so far with mtv music generator 2-3. Or another called club world. I just need to upload some tracks to the trusty laptop and send it off.
Happy wheelin!
