I think a NP 231 will work. Might check into it further. I have a 1992 S10 with a 700R4 and a NP 231, pass drop, and D44. The 700R4 and 4L60E are pretty similar basically.
1992 Olds Bravada, D44 front, 14bff rear, recentered Hummer beadlocks, 35" M/T's, eMap GPS, 700R4 from a 6.2 diesel, NP231, 3" BL. Go big or go home! 'Fool for life!

yeah the newer 4L60E's come with a 6 bolt pattern i think and the 700r4 are a 4 bolt i believe. advance adapters sells that kit to do it. that would be the way to go if i could find a 231

Nothing is going to bolt right up without requiring the specific adapter and/or stub shaft. You may as well accept that now. Whatever you decide to run will require more money. Your best bet will be to find out what tcases are offered in a passenger side front output, then find out what it will cost to adapt those to your transmission. Then way your options accordingly: gear drive vs chain drive, aluminum case vs cast iron, low range ratios, etc.
