Yep, only code. Kinda funny it did, which is why I really want to test it first before I order one.

figures, that would explain it.
dude, I would get the OEM dealership sensor since its not that off in price. just my 2 cents
that sounds like an easy fix though, better than something internal. sensors are cool

Hah, any gas vehicle that you want to run right. I can't wait to Megasquirt my SBC so I can get rid of about 80% of the sensors that I am checking on this stupid little motor.
I ordered the part from NAPA. It's a Denso just like the factory one and got it for 30 off since it was a friend. Gonna put it in today and see if it helps.

Megasquirt isn't smog legal at all. It's a fully tunable open source EFI system I'm putting in a smog exempt truck.
So I got the CPS and installed it and nothing changed at all. It runs just as bad and stills throws the same code. I called in a favor to a friend that is a tech at Toyota for a few years. He's researching the code to see if he can dig anything up.

Well that sucks... wonder what else could be causing it. Broken wire somewhere on the CPS circuit maybe?

maybe its the flywheel? that's where it gets the signal from..
try hooking up a voltometer and checking the readings, maybe plug/wiring is bad?

I still haven't found a way to test the sensor. I'm not sure what the output parameter is or should be. Any insight to that? I did try starting with it disconnected and it had nothing, proving something is happening, I'm just not sure what.

i was afraid you'd need an oscilioscope
honestly dude you might be better off to have the dealer look at it for diagnostics, IMO it would be worth it. heck I had to have my fuel sync done at the dealer for the truck
hopefully there's nothing wrong with your crank (you're forced induction if I remember?)

No, Arthur this is on the Tacoma. Just a boring little 4 cylinder. It's the one I had on Mojave Rd. Ooooh, wait that's right, you didn't make it.
I did try working on it again today. Turns out this thing has a timing chain and is buried in the motor right next to piston #1. It looked like too much work to start so late in the day, so I just poked it with a stick. It didn't move much at all so I'm pretty sure the tensioner is still in one piece. The timing is all controlled by the computer and I cannot spin the distributor at all. It is at 15deg at idle and ramps up as it should with RPM. The problem comes when it starts choking up, the timing retards worse than Jason trying to weld. LOL if it recovers, the timing goes back to normal. I'm going to pull the valve cap off this weekend sometime to double check the chain, but then it's going to a buddy's house to diagnose via a Toyota mechanic.
