I have a 2000 ford excursion 4x4.I noticed that the frame is a two piece frame.Up front by the swaybar links you can see where the frame is welded together, and helped with a riveted plate on the inside. My ? is if that is factory?

Yes, Ford likes doing that. Makes it easy to use the same parts across vehicle lines.

Not necessarily. You've got to remember that they spent literally millions of dollars engineering that frame to be as strong as possible, and needed, for that vehicle.
