I am new to the 4 wheeling world, I recently purchased 1978 chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 with a 350, th350 and a NP205. I heard that humvee split rims will fit on my 8 lug hubs. Is that true? I was also curious if anyone has had any trouble with the split rim design while on trails. With that, the tires that go with the rims are 37's and i was wondering if my axles will hold up to the taller wheels and tires.
Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't swear to the rims fitting, but the tires will be fine with enough clearance. I'd say yer axles will do great, but ya wanna think about deeper gears than stock. You probably have 3.73's or 4.10's?

Nova, if your rear axle is a full floating rear end, then there is no doubt as to the strength of that axle whatsoever. Your Dana 44 front end is another problem in itself however. In my opinion, there is no way that either the Dana 44 or 10 bolt front ends, in either 1/2 ton trim or 3/4 ton trim are capable of 37" tires for anything other than pavement. If you go off road, it is not a matter of if you break something, but when. Step up to a Dana 60 front end for anything larger than 35s. Also, I believe the Hummer wheels are 16.5s, I wouldn't be in a big hurry to put those on my truck due to the tires being offered in that size becoming less and less available. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.
