OK i dont know on those rigs but if some one has q's on a 99 ford 2wd to 4wd conversion i know it all cause i did it!!!    the 99 frame has factory holes that line up perfect...mine was a f-250 2wd my donor a f-350 4wd! donor was a 04. my 2wd had coils but 04 4wd had leafs and they bolted right up after ripping out my front coils and switched to leafs!!! no welding!! ask me if any questions i only want to help not brag or give uneducated info....you guys are awesome !! 10 years ago I swapped the running gear from a 95 F350 4x4 Powerstroke into an 86 F350 2wd gas truck.

DJDiesel is correct; the frames from around 81/82 on Ford F-250/F-350 trucks up to the introduction of the Super Duty series are the SAME.  All the holes are pre-drilled, and even the front engine crossmember is the same!  All you need to do is swap motor mounts if swapping engines in the F250/350 series.  I've looked at some of the comparable year F150 trucks, and while the front engine crossmember looks similar, I haven't measured it to verify this.  But on 81/82 through 98/99 F250/350 trucks, the frames & front engine crossmembers are the SAME.

I know that this series started in 1980, but from the 1980 frames I've seen, there are some holes missing...maybe in mid-1980 model year they changed?  I'm not sure, that's why I list as 81/82, as I know by then the factory dies were set the same through 98/99, when the Super Duties came on line.

I swapped in the 95 Powerstroke diesel into the 86 as well, and it bolted right in.  I did have to make considerable modifications to the 86 F350 cab firewall, and surrounding engine compartment sheetmetal to make the Powerstroke fit...but fit it did!!!  It ran great!  Fired up on the first crank... the 95 was a roll-over, but only minimal damage to the radiator & minor engine components; the cab was completely crushed & totaled.  So the swap was fairly easy, once I dismantled the cab.

TRUE... and how do you think the first 4x4 vans were made? lol somebody did some work and made the rig what he wanted it ... he or she  and also another thing is taking a car body and slamming it on a truck chassis is getting more popular also

Yeah, I recently (yesterday) got my hands on a 1996 Chevy Tahoe 2 wheel drive. Perfect condition aside from some fading around the door openers in the interior (which I plan on redo'ing the entire interior anyways), but as far as everything else no signs of wear and tear. And even though it's got 127,000 miles on it, $1300 I thought was a steal for this vehicle.

But that aside, I want to convert it to a 4x4 but I don't have the slightest idea how to do that. And I can't find anything on the web about "how to convert a '96 2 wheel drive Tahoe to 4x4"; so where do I start on converting?

Start your conversion by selling that 2wd and converting to a 4wd.  You will be a whole lot of money ahead on doing so.  What good is paying 1300 for something that you will have to sink another 3K into to make it into a 4wd that you could have picked up for 3K in the 1st place?
