Thinking positively and knowing what our schedule is like for this year for our new business I NEED a new truck.

Problem, You guys know I have always been MOPAR and NOT a FORD guy at all.

I think I am starting to make another change....  First Mozilla now a FORD fan...
Well I am thinking more a FORD supporter.

FORD didnt take Bail out money As far as I know.
The UAW in KS did not strike and made concessions to keep their jobs, they hope.

I kind of feel like I should really support them!

Am I off base here?  I am really trying my best to keep in line with what Dave was saying about supporting your local community.  Buy local and support the manufacturer that seems to be trying hard.

Well, you are definately right in wanting to "reward" Ford with your purchase. However, I would look at the dependability factor and track record of the class/size of truck you are looking to get. I can't tell you eighther way on the ford...cuz I beat the *** outta mine!   ...Like you didn't already know that, huh?

What I can say is that the lil f150 I bought sure did hold up for the 30+ thousand miles I put on it in one year.

What is wrong with the dodge you have now??

The Dually is fine, I need another truck.  Man I am all about making it happen so I need to make sure my business is available and ready to go, a back up crew.  Plus the dodge is a 97 and the comfort was never there but it got us everywhere we wanted without a major issue.
It could use more power, engine brake, more boost, exhaust really to continue the abuse we put it thru on a trip with the jeeps.

So what brought me to the ford aside from the just wanting to support a company that is trying to succeed without bailout...  I was refueling and this guy pulling a 44' closed trailer with a 07 dodge dually diesel pulled up....  Man I had to ask about it all.  We need to upgrade someday.
He said he wished he had bought the Ford, although the dodge has handled the 180k miles he has thrown at it in almost 2 years, he really wants to get the ford he claimed it was a better truck having driven them both.

Without much more convo that was all I got out of him...

So you know I need a Full size dually diesel with everything to handle pulling up to if not more than 21 k like he was...

I do remember how you beat, I mean ran your truck.  I remember it in the shop a lot to though with injector issues wasnt it...

i would vote for the ford, all the shop trucks at work are either a superduty pickup or van, f150 or a ranger, they are well maintained but not treated well since they are shop trucks after all. aside from the seats being worn out from to many overweight people sliding in and out over the years (myself included), ford trucks hold up and the chasis are solid and the brakes perform well. we do have three diesel powered trucks, two 7.3's and one 6.0 and both work well. these trucks are pushing 200,000 miles and run almost 24/7 without any major hiccups. two of our trucks with diesels are both e450 superduty vans and weigh in at close to 15,000 lbs and have no trouble maintaining freeway speeds uphills. just my two cents.

So is there a particular diesel engine that is better?  You say E450 but I assume you meant F450...

I know George really liked his new ford he got for a tow rig..  I know reality is they all will work it is just a matter dependabilty overall...

nope, i meant E450, chasis van, kind of like a motorhome, i mentioned both engines cus i haven't see a difference in reliability with our trucks at work. although i will say the 6.0 is quieter and has better acceleration.

from what I have heard the 7.3 is a great diesel, i read the 6.0 had some injector issues.

we have had that 6.0 at work for like two years and the only issue has been a fuel pressure regulator. something worth noting, i believe starting with the 6.0 in the pickups you must remove the cab to remove the heads or turbo, correct me guys if i have the details wrong. maybe that starts with a certain year?

grab a 5.9 24valve cummins from 2007,  that motor cant be beat for dependability and power.  the new dodge interiors are waaaaaaay better.  I know of several guys who own them and love them.

wow you guys havn't seem to have heard the horror stories ford has had with its latest deisel engines....... STAY AWAY from the 6.0 its got more that just injector failures.... more like a completey bad engine design...... the new 6.4 is supposedly better but it sucks down the diesel like not other..... really why are straying away from the cummins ram?? buy an 04.5 or newer cummins 600 with 325 hp and 600 ft lbs of tourqe stock and you won't be dissapointed, plus if you want you can reliabley add a chip to it and get around 500hp and at least 750lb ft of tourqe..... you still have a solid front axle and the great frame that dogde put in the HD rams...........
solid axle chevys cant be beat

yea, I had injector issues on mine, it was a 7.3. But it was a 2001. I did beat mine up...and thats prolly why all the visits to the shop.

What I can say is that truck would freakin' tow the state of Texas if I wanted to!!

I do miss her!!

Wow great input...  Chevy is definatley not in my future.  I agree with Kevin on the Dodge and that is why I like my 97 dually.  Interiors of fords sucks always have.  Input on the engines helps a lot...

I guess bottom line is I need to get what I like, Anyway I go there is always potential for problems...

Supporting the right company right now also weighs in a lot on this for me.  At least Ford had assets to dump.  And the union in KS seemed to make the right decision jobs over a strike...  hmmmm

When I lost my job I had some back up in 401k and jumped all over it cause I had to restart and it is working for me great. I hope to replace that money over the long run...

that's kinda funny cus i like the ford interiors, but ultimately it is up to you on what to buy. ford and dodge trucks have a great track record, except for the 6.0 which people have complained about but i have had no major issue with the one we have at work. when i worked for chevy all i saw all day was our diesel tech replacing injectors on the duramax pickups, but from what i heard the issue is solved by adding an aftermarket fuel/water seperator. to me it comes down to three things, what does it feel like to drive it (sensory input)? is it reliable? how much does it cost you to drive every month?
