I recently purchased a '76 Chevy K10.  I've been going over the truck and checking out all to make sure its safe and so on.  I noticed a growl/vibration and couldnt tell if it was in the tranny/transfer case or the maybe bad u-joints in the front drive shaft or maybe vibration transfering up from the front axle.  So in the process of elimination I removed the front drive shaft (i have a 203 transfer w/ full time 4x4).  After removing the drive shaft I was getting ready to take it for a test drive and the truck will not move.  R,N,D,2,1... it doesnt matter.  when I move the shifter aroung i can fell it shifting into forward or reverse but when i step on the gas... no go.  Is this normal or is the tail shaft of my tranny snapped/bad etc...

I had a 79 Dodge power wagon with a NP203 T case. At one point I needed to remove the front drive shaft and had the same problem. Turns out the NP203 has a differential in it. That may be the cause of your problem nothing may be broken. My T case in that instance had 4 selections except neutral. 4 HI 4HI lock 4 LO 4 LO lock. The lock selections locks the differential in the T case. I do not know if the one you have has those selections or not. Hope this helps.

I have 78 Chev with the same t case, did you ever figure out where that growling was coming from? Mine does it too but only when I'm on the throttle. Also, when I had my front driveshaft off the truck would not move with any gear/t case selection (the transfer case would keep popping out of gear)
