Electrical Problems in the K5!!!! AHHHHHH damn thing

i swear if its not one thing its another...... this truck just dosnt want to run   i finally got the rebuilt motor in bolted everything up, installed big (_|_) tranny cooler and gauge and now im ready to start it  but......................................... no luck ......... for some reason the starter will barely crank, ive had my optima yellow top deep cycle charging for plenty of time but it still wont provide enough jucie to turn the motor over so i get another good fresh battery from another truck just as a temporary to start my truck and the battery at least got the motor to turn a few degrees but after about 3 turns of the swicth it killed that battery too................ how do i look for a short or something that would be draining my battery? .......... btw i had my stero disconnected durring this entire process , the only auxillary thing hooked up was my headunit but taht was turned off as well...........

Sounds like a electrical current problem. Check all battery cables and especially the negative cable where it grounds to block. I once attached it to frame of car and had similar results. I'm not afraid to admit my mistakes I'm human.Also don't rule out the starter because now you have a nice fresh motor which will be a little harder to turn initially. Good luck.  

Check your grounds.  

how long did you cahrge the battery
those batterys are meant as a secondary battery because they have a deep charge
the bad thing with that is to charge them its about 12-24hrs using a tricle charge (very slow charge) reg batterys can be charged in a hour

Geo, something else you may want to check, as odd as it sounds, is your valve adjustment.  Many a time, I have seen guys go to start a new or freshly rebuilt motor for the first time and the valves are so far out of adjustment that the motor is fighting itself to turn over and eventually won't crank at all because there is so much compression built up in the cylinders.  I know it's a very slight chance in hell, but you never know.  Just something else to help isolate the problem.  

well first of thanks for the advise guys..... i tightenedt all my wires , the grounds, the posts and then left the battery  to charge overnight that got the motor cranking like its supposed to  but i still haven't gotten it to start ..... at first my problem was that i wasn't getting any spark, the coil was dirsty and rusty inside so i pulled that apart and cleaned it now i have spark then my vavle were way out of adjustment and my timing is correct so now the motor should start but ive drained the battery cranking it so i gots to let it charge again.......

Geo, you'll want to be really careful when overcranking a motor that won't start.  If the valves are out of adjustment, you dump too much fuel into the cylinders that doesn't ignite and it seeps between the rings and the cylinder walls and then it washes out your rings and scores the cylinder walls.  Then you get no compression and have to rebuild a brand new motor.  It is no good, trust me.  I speak from experience here.  Be careful bro.  

oh my thanks for the advice......... i done gassing it, its getting plenty of fuel so i was just cranking it with no throttle help...... sounds like it wants to start now, just needs a fully charged battery........sucks my charger decided to break and now i got to take my battery to autozone to get charged
