I have the 88' Ford F-150.. It is the strait-six 4.9L.. Ok I bought this like this. Just had it running today with the brand new battery I bought. I have an ever start 850cca. I had to jump the truck!!!!!! But wait this is where I will explain it... I had to jump it with my car. The truck fired up. NOW..... When I start it it idles great and everything seems to be ok. Except for the gadges but thats nothing. Ok well when I disconnect the jumpers the truck dies out. I have to jump it to get it running again. But as soon as I disconnect the jumpers it dies again. Now what is that. I bought it with a cable that is I believe a sterio amp cable, You know the bigger power.. This is what is connected to the terminal to the selinoid! Is that the problem? ?

it sounds like the alternator is bad also back in the day it didnt take a lot of juice to power those things and so they didnt need a thick cable, but to be on the safe side when the engine is running feel the cable and see if its hot. also the alternater will make diff noises when its under load and make sure all the cables are tight and all the grounds are good

Thanks Blazer. The cables don't seem to get hot and the alternator don't make a whinnning noise like it's bad and under pressure. Like I said it's a brand new battery. So I would think the truck would stay running till it went dead right?

O. and one more thing to anyone reading this post. I cam into conflict with a club called Xtreme Trail Riders Club. Username-(xtremeelements) They are located in south west Pa. They resulted in insults on me and on my site. Which I deleted some of the remarks on there. I just wanted to let people know about how immature they are and that they talk *** behind your back.. Just a friendly Heads up from DirtyBurgh. The members are very immature for a so called club of friends. No resect for other mudders

take your your alt to a store to check if it works before repalcing, also a battery llight on the dash should appear meaning no charge so the vehicle is running off the battery and not the alternator like it should

Hey Blazer. The problem was the cable! I used the jumper cable positve going from the battery to the selenoid and it fired up. Though you were right i think about the alternator. After I shut the truck off it now has lack of power to start it again. So I am guessing that the alternator is bad wouldn't you think?

Blazer you there? Hey I took the alternator down and got it tested. It turned out that the alt. was still good, pumping out 12-14. I bought a new solenoid though. ($13.00 for my truck) And I'm still getting a click and everything shuts off and no start. I jumped the Solenoid again this time. Got it start, went to take the cable off the solenoid and damn near burnt the piss out of me..... Any suggestions what can cause it? A bad ground maybe? but where. it's grounded to my bottom tranny bolt...

sounds like you still have loose connection or too small of cable. There's not much that should make your battery cable get hot. you should have a good solid tight connection at both ends, no play at all.

Yep, that was it the damn terminal wasn't clamping down on the wire good enough I guess. Problem solved.... Starts up like a champ now... Thanks guys!!!!
One more thing to all and any, Since I got the truck running now I can better diagnose it. When I push the clutch in, it won't go into gear. When I pump the clutch it will, only to seem like the pressure is being relieved to my pressure plate. Would this be a faulty slave cylinder? If so, am I going to have to drop the tranny to replace it. And does this mean I have to replace the clutch or can I just replace the slave cylinder? I took it out back and the clutch accually feels good. It's just that pressure that's being relieved? Anyone?
