Hey guys just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on samurai project. I can buy one of these little dudes for four hundred bucks that runs and drives just not all that pretty to look at, is all stock and has a hard top also. I have an extra set of toyota axles that i could put under it. would like to just do a spring over onto the toyota axles and run like 33s, but have never owned one of these and not sure if worth messing with maybe to much trouble for not much of a wheeler. If anyone has done something along these lines would appreciate and info on what the end results were. Not expecting it to be a heavy duty wheeler just something different as no one around here has one so just not familiar with them at all. Thanks

For 400 bucks I'd say it's totally worth it!

A wise old junkyard man once told me "Any 4wd that runs and moves under it's own power is worth at least $500...no matter what it looks like."
He had no teeth and smelled like armpits and 90 weight, but he knew what was good junk and what wasn't!

a buddy of mine has one and that thing goes anywhere. he leaves those of us with bigger rigs behind a lot because he just slips through things we have to climb or go around.

Brady, it's def worth it!  And, with you already having Toyota axles, you're one step ahead of the game.  Those little Samurais are a real "go anywhere" rig if they're set up right.  Alot of people don't know this, but the folks at Suzuki took the old flat fender jeep mold and changed it very little and then put their own body on it, THAT'S IT!  So ask yourself if you would buy a flatfender jeep that ran for that price, I sure would.  Now, it's going to be underpowered for sure, but I wouldn't really worry about that for a crawler.  You can make up for low hp with gearing.  If you stay with stock motor & tranny, then get a drop in lower gearset for the Tcase.  I know that guys have had good luck swapping peppier 4 cylinders into them.  If it were me, and I was set on a motor swap, I'd try to source a newer 4 banger and 5spd and Tcase out of a Toyota Tacoma.  That'd be a sweet rig for sure.

ya, i got quite a few friends with samurais, they definetly domiate with the rite gears, little beffier tires and a locker in front and rear, they are pretty much unstoppable, especially if you get a winch just for the extra help, cuz with those things, you get into sticky situations nobody else wants to haha.

friend of mine also put a 1.6l i think it was diesel into his samurai, and it goes good aswell, havent seem it wheel yet, but its a pretty cool little rig

yeah i have got a few ideas of things i want to do but gonna try to keep it as cheap as possible, propably do a spring over, weld up front and rear and maybe try to add another transfer for lower gears, not sure yet though i might just keep wheeling like it is, at least till i get some of my other projects done!!
