I have a 98 ford ranger 4x4, I want to swap in a solid axel front end. I see a lot of IFS rigs converted to solid axels in your magazine, how do I go about performing this conversion on my truck? My truck is equiped with a pulse vacuum hub system and a power assist rack and pinon teering system, will I encounter any problems in doing this swap?

Please can someone share their expertise on this matter?

You will need to get rid of your pinion steering system with a crossover steering system and the tie rods might hit your oil pan. it does with a 99 Tacoma. The hubs will be manual with a SA and also lots of green. *** adds up fast

I don't have any expertise, but I have an '03 ranger edge I want to do the same thing to.  You have probably already thought of this, but how about using the running gear and steering system from a 66-77 bronco (one that's already rotted away, shame to part out a good one!).  I have had a an almost impossible time finding any aftermarket stuff for '98 and up 4WD rangers.  Have you looked at the dixon bros stuff yet?  Pretty awsome.  If height is what you're looking for, I have been thinking that using superlifts front drop-down box and longer spindles and combining them with dixon's kit would give pretty good hieght and still retain all the travel.  So far, I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work.  Good luck and keep me posted if you find the answer to the solid axle.

Hi Im currently doing a solid axel swap on a 98 explorer It is a pain!!  You will have to jack it above 9 in just to get the axel to fit under or gut the entire frame down to 2 rails.  If any one could tell me a tip I would love it

9" is probably about right for these years Rangers and Explorers.

Ive been collecting parts myself for my 85. I have axles out of 76 bronco (so thay said ) and have some 5.5" Progressive Rate Coils from James Duff and his double shock hoops. Trying to get some good Radius arms. I dont want to buy them for a bronco or ranger if I'll have to cut or mod. them in anyway, I will just build them. Ive been working on it pretty hard latly. I have a 302 out of a 87 f-150 and trying to get that all squared away while I have plenty off room with the front in bare. Hope I'll have it all ready for some paint and new rubber by this summer,  Just all depends on that money...or lack of in my house..
