so i know it sounds crazy but some friends of mine want to get a geo storm and mod it to be able to go trail running. i have a mechanic friend that say it is totally possable using a frame of a GMC Jimmy. get an engine out of a camero and bolt it in place after bolting and welding the geo storm to the frame of the jimmy. i would like to get everyones opinions on weather this might work and if so what might be done to make it work.

Anything is possible given enough time and money but end result is not going to be what you think.

Its gonna be hard to mount the unibody onto the frame of a jimmy without lots of problems and safty concerns, plus the storm is not realy strong enough to withstand trail riding. not to say it wouldnt be fun to try though.

probably cheaper to just fab a rig and use the four banger as the motor and the jimmy frame. then you could have a full rollcage and a safer rig. if you have the front wheel drive tranny you could go sand rail style and have a rear mounted engin.

Did this a while back with a Chevette 2dr and a jeep chassis....turned out pretty neat. I also have a storm in the backyard i could've done it with, but i got different plans for that. Gonna mount engine in middle, so that 1 axle is pointing forward and other is pointing aft. Then run custom shafts from transaxle to axles on front and rear; in process of building that setup as we speak. The body will have approximately 8 inches of lift and will be using a modified suzuki samurai chassis. The rear axle will have to be flipped so the front/rear driveshafts turn same direction without axles pulling/pushing against each other. Good luck with your project man, but out of curiousity, wouldn't you rather use a mini-jeep chassis, like from a samurai, sidekick or tracker? It'll make the ride much more comfortable, and the hard-ship on the body wont be as bad with the twists and jolts you'll get from an s-10 style chassis. You could probably use the engine from the chassis also, so you will still have a good power:weight ratio....too much power and not enough weight and you'll be bouncing everywhere you go, which can get dangerous....
-Mike.
Ps. Be safe out there.
