Tranny will not work in reverse or OD. Fluid is DARK and smells burnt. Tranny has never given one minute of trouble and then yesterday it wouldn't shift after taking off from a light. I pulled over and it will not work in Reverse. Heard some metallic clanking minutes before. What year model of the 4L60E will work in this truck? I have a tranny out of a 95 4wd Blazer. Could I make one out of the two?? Thanks for any help!!

Your best bet is to yank out the bad tranny and compare any obvious differences in the two cases.  Bolt pattern for transfer case adapter, computer hook ups, cooling line locations, crossmember locating holes, etc.  Then, if everything looks the same, then I think I'd talk with a transmission shop about possible differences between the two internally.  If you get the green light from the tranny shop, bolt that mutha up and give 'er hell!
