i have a 91 w150 with a very tired 318 and was trying to decide between buying a crate motor[360?], a rebuilt[318,360], or rebuilding the original motor. i would be grateful for any help w/ the pros and cons of these 3 options.

It's really up to you. I know alot of people who just don't like the 318, but they're great engines, and can be built to put out alot of power. I'd rebuild the original, the money you save by a rebuild can be used on performace parts for the engine on other modifications to the truck, such as regearing, t-case mods, liftkits, tires, ect.

IF ITS JUST TIRED AND NO LOWER FAIURES THEN REBUILD IT ITS ALOT CHEAPER...YOU CAN HAVE THE BLOCK AND HEADS CHECKED OVER FOR TOLERANCES AND PROBLEMS AT YOUR LOCAL MACHINE SHOP THEN HAVE THEM MACHINE THE BLOCK MAIN JOURNAL...CAM JOURNAL...AND RE GRIND THE VALVES ON THE HEADS AND REPLACE THE VALVE OIL SEALS AND TURN UNDER THE CRANK (GRIND TO UNIFORM TOLERANCE) AND HAVE THEM HONE THE CYNLINDER WALLS AND ASSEMBLE THE LOWER END AND INSTALL THE VALVES INTO THE HEADS AT THAT POINT YOU CAN TAKE OVER AND ASSEMBLE THE REST OF THE PARTS ....SEALS....HEADS TO BLOCK.... PUSH RODS...INTAKE ECT. THAT WAY YOU GET THE SATUSFACTION OF ROLLING UP YOUR SLEEVES!!ITS EASY I DID IT AT 16 WITH A SIMPLE REBUILD BOOK!! OR HAVE THEM DO IT ALL!! OR FIND A GOOD 360 THAT NEEDS A REBUILD AND DO IT THAT WAY 360'S ARE NICE MY BUDDY GREG HAS ONE IN A BRONCO ON 39s AND HE CAN SMOKE ALL FOUR OF HIS SWAMPERS ON HIS SHITTY ROAD. ITS ALOT CHEAPER TO REBUILD VERSES NEW CRATE AND ITS WHAT WE CALL SEASONED!! GOOD LUCK!!!
