NP208 transfer jumping out of gear

84 chevy 3/4 ton manual trans, sometimes when taking off in 2hi transfer will jump out of gear. I then pull the selector down to 4hi and still nothing, I then pull it down to 4low and it goes into gear I then push it back to 2hi and theres nothing again,I will repete that a few times then I will have drive in 2hi again, Doesnt happen while in motion or when i have hubs locked, Any suggestions would be appreciated

Check all linkage to make sure it is going into gear all the way. I hope this is the cause because if not sounds like you will be pulling out a transfer case.If original then it's 25 years old and probably ready to give up the ghost.Good luck and keep us posted.

did you ever find the cause? mine is doing the same thing. some one said shift forks need replaced.

Sounds like a worn range fork.

My pos 208 was stuck in 4 hi shift fork was broke so i scraped it for a 205
1980 K20 400 hp 350 4 spd np 205 dana 44 14 bolt posi 33's and 4.10 gears
