Chrysler has been slowing killing Jeep and they would do better to either sell it off or let it die rather than turn it into something it was never meant to be.

My 2002 jeep has kicked ass since the day i bought it.
in stock to what it is now it hasn't disapointed me yet.
Sno you always harp about plastic and nonsence that doesnt make the vehicle any less or more capable.
in stock form i don't see and CJ7 5, or yj any more capable then mine. and now with the small suspension upgrades i don't see any of them keeping up.

times are changing... i know its scary but you will be ok.  AC, Coil spring, and bears O my

You were not around when Jeeps were Jeeps right off the showroom floor so of course you do not know any better. I will tell you a story that is true. Back in 75 I was hunting in Texas and I heard a distant motor in the woods and brush cracking and crunching. After a while it got closer and then a CJ5 emerged from a brush pile. A rancher had just bought a new Jeep (it was about a week old) and was trying it out and breaking it in. The paint was scratched up and the spare tire and carrier had been ripped off the side of it and was laying in the back but otherwise is was unharmed because it was all metal and not made out of plastic and tin cans. You could retrace their steps and see where they had run small tree down and driven through thick thorn bushes and a few creek bottoms. Had this be one of your new jeep it would hae been DOA and had it plastic parts scattered all over the woods before it finally died. You guy that think new 4x4 are so cool and tuff where not around or driving when they built real 4x4's

that's quite a romantic story, you should write a book and put fabio on the cover.

if i wanted to drive my jeep through a forest and trash it, I very well could have.  but why the hell would I.  "Yup just spent a few grand on a new jeep....gonna go drive it over a tree and a bush.... yup..."

where are all these plastic parts on my jeep???  at least my spare tire would have stayed on since jeep got smart and mounted them on the back and not the side.   are you talking about the bumper end caps?? and flares??  what does that have to do with my jeep being DOA.   your "hunter"  ripped off his tire from the side of his jeep.   im missing some end caps.....  your logic is a little off.  and by little i mean ALOT.

actually now that i think of it, any modern car is like 80% post consumer materials right? so all those cj5 and cj7 jeeps have been recycled into the new tj and jk wrangler, ya that sounds about right.

You know, I want to put out an APB for the person that's been pissing in Snoman's cheerios for the past 20 or so years.  Oh  noes a car with plastic, oh noes we need more wilderness, wah wah wah.
The thread is about IH buying Jeep, if they improve it cool, if not, there's a whole catalog of parts that I can build a new rig from or heaven forbid build up an older 4-runner

No romance but reality. The new one are a product of fantasy romance and dreams in thinking that they are something they really are not.

So are they not JEEPS? When my 83 cj rolled off the floor it was the most capable vehicle out there. When a tj rolled off the floor it was too. When the jk rolles off it is too. Just because they have plastic fenders flairs...oh wait so does my cj... and some plastic bumper endcaps, that doesnt make them less of anything. As far as suspension goes, the coil spring allow for more areticulation. the hight of the older jeeps was nice until people(maybe even your rancher) started sueing jeep for the rollovers because they werent smart enough to keep it upright. a few bucks can fix the hight problem. the bodys on the yj and ty are far superior with the galvanized steel that takes much longer to rust and rot. i wish they would have started that one sooner.my cj,although i love it,is no more that a pile of rust with a drive train. and from the start cjs where never realy that dependable but they made up for it with what they could do. I myself would rather have a jeep that does a little less from the factory and can be modified that will last for ever than on that is perfect off the floor and only last a few years. just my oppinion. on a side note. i have owned all the "real jeeps" cj yj tj. and my personal favorate to drive was the cjs but they just rusted out and fell apart.
