sanford1983:
but jeep is only evolving to meet todays standars and needs. they where the leader in 4x4 and offraod technolagy in the early years and they still are today.the army is who demanded simplicity and strength. if you realy want to say that its not what it used to be than what about when the put tops and doors on them. alot of old farmers said that was the end of jeep. Its all just about staying ahead of the pack. and if it is not what it used to be than thats what had to happen. but... the old cjs with the v8s and heaveir axles tcases and trannys are definatly missed. i think there is room for a little of both. the only thing that the new rubicon is lacking is the v8. it has the sronger axles and a 4;1 low. its way overpriced but they are selling.when you look at the  average prices versus average income , they are realy about the same as they where in the 60s and 70s mimus the rubi.

Yes it is evolving but not quite as you suggest. Chrysler has been on the ropes for a while and has used the Jeep namesake in a unsuccessful attempt to sell Jeeps that are really pure cars (Patriot and so on) based on Dodge car platforms. The evolution has been to make it more of a car to try to boost bottom line, not to make the Jeep and better Jeep. Jeep was a niche vehicle and should have stayed that way but greed transformed it into something it was never meant to be. Some things should be sacred and Jeep should have been kept a lot purer in concept. If they would remarket the XJ of 84 to 2001 in a basic form it would sell well again today because it was a simple, sturdy, timeless design. Liberty was a poor replacement for it but it was more yuppie car like.

still say your wrong,  your arguement is consistantly changing and you cant give me a conclusive problem with newer jeeps wranglers. if you wanna get into other models that's another story.  everything you say is generalized and false.  saying plastic parts means nothing. the only ext plastic parts are the bumper caps and fender flares....

lets do a little comparison on the fully upgraded models
from the factory
TJ                             CJ
fully boxed frame         C frame cracks at steering box

4link coils               leafs front and rear

4.0 190hp 220tq EFI       v8  150hp  245tq 2bb Carb

dana 44s air lockers      dana 44s  Limited Slips

galvanized steel body     Rust bucket

5spd manual,4spd auto     3spd auto, 3spd man

Tcase NP241  4-1 LR       Spicer 20 2-1 LR

31" MTR's 4.11 gears      215/75-15  3.73s

curb weight 3,438lbs      curb weight 2,742lbs

lots of creature comforts  basically a tractor

haha wow, umm let's see, if you are going to give an opinion about a product give evidence as to why it is actually a faulty product not just something you don't like. btw snoman, my daily driver is a 1975 scout II and my other vehicle is a 1968 dodge d200, i know you don't care and will probably have some sort of biased half brained witless opinion, but so be it.

as long as the windshield wipers barely work, it rusts from the inside out and there is always something wrong with it, the scout name will fit just fine. Geo450racer, your k5? go jack someone elses thread haha

Well can I just say that I sure miss my K5. Its too bad GM still doesn't make those anymore. They are about the best fullsize rock rigs ever made. They have about the most perfect wheelbase, the weight was nice too, the 700R4/208 with 5.13s and 37s and lockers front and rear works sweet! What do you think?

yea i doubt it, although it would be cool if International had a passenger truck line again. they need to bring back the pick ups. the old IH pick ups were the heaviest built pickups of their day

Hey, I like the Scouts too. A friend of mine had one all tricked out for the rocks and I have to say they have some major capabilities! My first truck was a 71 IH heavy half with a 304 and 3 speed with 3.73s. The sad thing was, it had more GM parts on it than IH. I bought it for $100! I took that thing everywhere and it didn't matter if it was loaded or empty it got 12mph. I put a 40 gallon tank in the bed and back then it would cost me 40 bucks to fill it when it was empty and still get me a soda and have a little change left over! Didn't mean to jack your thread. I would like to see a new IH Scout. They were built to last. I actually seen a 74 or so for sale today that I might check into tomorrow. The bodies usually don't rust out. They have good reliable engines too.
